The AHEAD Project is thrilled to announce the selection of the first artist to join the co-design workshops, aimed at developing innovative heritage experiences. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the AHEAD project works to remove access barriers, allowing local communities and artists to co-create engaging, participatory ways to experience archaeological sites. As part of this initiative, a call for artists was launched in Italy, Greece, and Spain, resulting in a high number of applications in the three pilot countries.

In Spain, the selection process for the AHEAD call was highly competitive, with 12 artists from diverse backgrounds and artistic disciplines submitting their applications. After careful evaluation by a team from the University of Deusto and the National Museum of Altamira, a decision was made. We are proud to announce that the selected artist for Spain is Majo García Polanco. Her work explores themes of memory, identity, and the intersection of human nature with the environment. With a background in audiovisual languages, she uses photography, installation, and performance to create site-specific artistic experiences that challenge viewers’ perceptions of time and space. Her approach reflects a deep engagement with both personal and collective histories, often blending contemporary concerns with ancient traditions.

We look forward to seeing how Majo’s unique artistic vision will contribute to the AHEAD project, adding her distinctive voice to the ongoing dialogue between heritage and innovation.
