The Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica and Melting Pro proudly announce that Simone Vacca, film director and visual artist based in Rome, has been selected to participate in the AHEAD Labs.

AHEAD, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme, seeks to innovate how audiences engage with cultural heritage by equipping heritage managers with tools to create participatory, inclusive, and transformative experiences. The project spans three cultural heritage sites in Italy, Greece, and Spain, where selected artists collaborate with local communities to develop experiential works of art.

Simone Vacca brings extensive experience in filmmaking and visual arts, with a focus on themes central to inequality and social marginalization. His portfolio includes short films and docu-films that explore these issues, alongside collaborations with prestigious institutions such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Gypstotheca Canoviana. In his work, Vacca bridges ancient and contemporary artistic narratives, creating meaningful connections between heritage and the present.

For the AHEAD Italian hub, Vacca will engage with two key target groups: high school students and residents aged 65 and over. He will actively participate, as well as personally document, in a series of cocreated workshops in Ostia Antica, structured using the ACED (Audience-Centered Experience Design) methodology, aiming at designing innovative, participatory and meaningful experiences with the heritage of Ostia Antica, starting from the needs and desires of the local community.

Vacca’s project will highlight the archaeological park as a vibrant and creative space, connecting history with contemporary perspectives and strengthening the public’s relationship with heritage.
