On February 14th, 2025, the Archaeological Museum of Messara hosted the AHEAD Talk, an inspiring event dedicated to cultural heritage engagement and audience development. The talk attracted a diverse audience, including representatives from the Ephorate of Antiquities of Heraklion, local municipalities, educators, community members, and the Messara Association Network, along with numerous stakeholders from across the region.
The event featured an engaging agenda, with Roula Gkika (HERITΛGE), Aris Anagnostopoulos, Ilektra Angelopoulou, Antonis Papadakis, and Nikos Andreadakis, who each brought valuable perspectives on different aspects of heritage management and engagement. Discussions covered:
- The AHEAD initiative and its objectives
- Community engagement in cultural heritage projects
- The role of art as a bridge between archaeological sites and the public
- Public archaeology and comics as tools for storytelling
- The transformation of museums into interactive learning spaces for children
Beyond insightful discussions, the audience actively participated by sharing personal memories of Messara’s inexhaustible cultural wealth—stories and experiences that remain deeply engraved in their hearts and collective memory.
