The AHEAD consortium is excited to announce a Call for Artists, inviting creatives from Greece, Italy, and Spain to submit proposals for participation in the AHEAD Labs. These Labs will take place at three renowned locations: the Messara Archaeological Area (Greece), the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica (Italy), and the National Museum and Research Center of Altamira (Spain).
The initiative seeks to engage one artist from each pilot country to join a series of co-design workshops, aimed at developing innovative heritage experiences. The selected artists will work closely with archaeological site staff, representatives of key audiences, and under the guidance of the local AHEAD partners: HERITΛGE in Greece, Melting Pro in Italy, and the University of Deusto in Spain.
AHEAD: Redefining Cultural Heritage Engagement
AHEAD aims to innovate the way we interact with cultural heritage by fostering participation and eliminating access barriers. Co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe program, the project aspires to create inclusive, participatory experiences that bring people closer to cultural heritage. Through this call, the chosen artists will collaborate with local communities and site staff to co-create fresh, engaging ways for the public to experience these important archaeological sites.
Participatory Creation and Innovation
Artists selected through this call will participate in locally-based workshops, designed using the Audience-Centered Experience Design (ACED) methodology. Together with community members, they will co-design new cultural experiences that animate and reimagine the heritage of these archaeological sites. This collaboration will innovate these historical locations with the artists exploring new forms of creative expression that speak to diverse audience needs.
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity is open to professional artists specializing in participatory and relational practices, with proven experience in co-creation projects involving communities. Ideal candidates will have a strong ability to blend their artistic vision with the values of archaeological heritage, crafting experiences that emerge from collective input and shared narratives.
